Who?
If you're reading this, it's probably because we met at an expo recently and you're one of our engagement session winners - congratulations! We're Kat and Omar, the husband and wife duo behind Moon Rock Photography. We've been photographing weddings for the past 10+ years, and we've recently begun doing video, too. Our style is true color with an emphasis on documentary-inspired poses.
Kat handles most of the website and social media stuff, so you're probably talking to her whenever we reach out! When we're at a shoot, Kat is the one prompting you to pose and making you laugh so we can capture natural reactions. Omar is the behind-the-scenes guy, always setting up lights and making sure our equipment is up to date and top of the line. Together we're a perfectly balanced team!
What?
The mini engagement session is a 20 to 30-minute photoshoot featuring you and your fiancé to capture and celebrate this important milestone in your lives. You'll never be fiancé's again, so it's important to document these moments! After the session, we e-mail you all of the watermarked, unedited images so you can choose your favorite 6 photos. You'll have a chance to leave any editing requests for each image, and when we're finished editing them, we'll send back a link so you can download your photos! There's a function in each of our galleries to order prints directly from the website, or you can send them to your favorite lab to have prints made somewhere else. If you happen to like more than the 6 photos, we just charge $10 for each additional image.
If you happen to book us for your wedding before your engagement session, and your wedding package comes with an engagement session, you have a few options! Inquire about how you can upgrade from a mini to a full engagement session, or what other kind of session you can swap for it.
When?
Many of our couples like to use their engagement session photos to send on Save the Dates, wedding invitations, or for their wedding websites. Save the dates are typically sent out anywhere from one-year to nine-months out from the wedding, or whenever you've settled on and booked the venue. These are more common for weddings with many out of state guests or for destination weddings. Invitations are usually sent out 3 to 4 months before the wedding. When we text you we'll narrow down a date that will work for both of us. Late Spring, Summer, and Early Fall tend to be our busiest season with weddings, so we try to aim for outside of that range.
Depending on when we capture your photos, if you have many specific editing requests and if you've chosen many additional photos, it can take anywhere from 2 to 7 weeks to edit and deliver your engagement gallery. We practice fine-art editing, which means that we take care of every detail from flyaway hairs or double chins, to trash cans in the background. It's a tedious process, but it results in a piece of art you'll be able to cherish. If you'd like a specific photo or two just for your invites, leave a note in your editing requests and I'll get those to you first!
Where?
For weddings, we travel all throughout Michigan with no travel fee. For engagement sessions we can travel up to an hour outside of the Detroit area for free, so most of our couples tend to meet us halfway or so. When we're setting up our shoot, Kat will talk to you about what kind of vibe you're going for, and then e-mail you a bunch of links to galleries that might match that vibe. These will all be some of our favorite locations that we shoot at pretty frequently, but if you have other location suggestions, feel free to share! Keep in mind that some locations charge pretty hefty permit fees (Ford estate, Cranbrook gardens, Ford Field, etc), but if you're willing to send over the fee, Kat can arrange to get the permit.
Why?
Why would we give away free stuff? We want to give couples that have not yet booked a photographer for their wedding a chance to see how we work. When we were booking a photographer for our wedding, we almost signed on with a photographer that wasn't a good fit for us, and we really learned about the anxiety of booking a service blind. The brides and grooms who stop into our booth at these expos hopefully have connected with us or our brand in some way, and a little engagement session gives up the opportunity to see if we're a good fit for the wedding.
Kindly, if you have already booked a wedding photographer/videographer, please pass the prize onto the next couple.
I hope we get a chance to work together soon!
